ARISE Around the World

Antigua and Barbuda are located in the middle of the Leeward Islands in the Eastern Caribbean, roughly 17 degrees north of the equator. To the south are the islands of Montserrat and Guadeloupe, and to the north and west are Nevis, St. Kitts, St. Bart’s , and St. Maarten. Antigua, the largest of the English-speaking Leeward Islands, is about 14 miles long and 11 miles wide, encompassing 108 square miles.

A group of participants is presently working on completing the ARISE Evidenced-Based Life Skills Training online. The Gard Center presently offers environmental education, entrepreneurship classes in agriculture, cooking, computer repair, weaving and textiles and yacht maintenance.

The staff enrolled in the ARISE online training course will be prepared to go out and work with the youth throughout their island teaching them interactive ARISE life skills lessons.

ARISE Foundation has made available all of our great life skills curriculum and staff training to the Ministry of Education in Bermuda. Their trained staff have been using our materials to teach their at-risk youth.

The definition of a champion and a warrior is: a  person who is  superior and has the attributes of a winner.  One who is engaged energetically in a cause. Let me introduce you to Lucinda Worrell Stowe, an ARISE Life Skills Instructor whose energies  are devoted to the cause of improving lives of at-risk and troubled youth in Bermuda. This woman truly defines what it means to be a CHAMPION.

Lucinda has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and is fighting for her life but she has not backed-off from educating and supporting the vulnerable youth she hold close to her heart. This Champion is being forced to leave her home in Bermuda for cancer treatment at John Hopkins hospital in Baltimore, Maryland for three months, she was concerned that the youth would not have their ARISE classes. With her health failing, legs that would hardly support her, in constant pain, she was insistent on training other people who would continue her mission to provide ARISE life skills lessons to the juvenile offenders in Bermuda.  With her 27 year old  son Shawki who is also a teacher helping her up the steps to the training site each day, making sure she had enough pain medication, Lucinda gathered the strength to spend three full days training staff from the Residential Treatment Services ( RTS) , Ministry of Education as ARISE Life Skills Instructors. This required super human effort from a woman hardly able to stand alone.

This experience is similar to a person in an emergency who is able to lift an automobile off of an injured child pinned under an automobile. Where does this strength come from? Lucinda used that same God given strength to complete the training and certify nine wonderful new ARISE Life Skills Instructors who will continue salvaging the very lives of the at-risk young people in Bermuda this Champion has built lasting relationships with, who will now be equipped with the social and emotional skills they need to lead smarter, healthier more successful lives. For three days this champion was brimming with passion and the glory that comes from working to help educate disadvantaged youth to change habits in ways that make life better for them.

The staff trained was amazed at Ms Worrell-Stowe’s bulldog tenacity that gave her the strength  to conduct this training. Ms. Delarie Outerbridge said: “Let me say a big THANK YOU for sending Mrs Lucinda Worrell-Stowe to give us Arise Life Skills Training. I truly enjoyed the course and Mrs Stowe makes it quite clear and interesting!”

ARISE Foundation was established in 1986 their offices Palm Beach Florida. The web address is at-riskyouth.org. The ARISE program is international in scope and its mission is to provide valuable ARISE Life skills and staff training to at-risk youth to achieve their highest potential as law abiding citizens through ARISE group sessions conducted by well trained, caring ARISE Facilitators.

Bhutan, officially the Kingdom of Bhutan, is a landlocked country in South Asia located at the eastern end of the Himalayas. It is bordered to the north by China and to the south, east and west by India.

In 2014, Yeshi Eudon emailed us and asked if she could avail herself of our books for her students at a government primary school in a developing country. Yeshi does not have internet so she could not use eBooks so ARISE sent her books for elementary school aged children so that Yeshi can teach these children ARISE Life Skills Lessons.

Living in Kazakhstan and seeing orphans abandoned twice — first, when they were placed in the orphanage; and second, when they leave the orphanage and start living on their own being totally unprepared for that life — was concerning. Those youth at greatest risk of drug and alcohol abuse, criminal activity, prostitution, etc. are those who have not had a stable family and active support networks. It raised the issue of what can be done to help prepare these youth for independent living. Due to limited resources in Russian or Kazakh languages, I had to look for life skills training in English and this is when I found out about ARISE Foundation.

Arise materials played a crucial role in development of the Youth Impact program. Due to cultural differences, the materials had to be adjusted to fit in the Central Asian culture and translated into Russian and Kazakh. Life Skills training is already in the implementation phase and received great response from youth that attend the training on a weekly basis.

   • deal with bullying

   • take care of health

   • manage finances

   • choose the right relationships

The program is lead by committed individuals who want to help youth often forgotten by society.  Those involved want to come alongside to mentor, encourage and support these youth, while giving them practical tools to lead successful lives.  It is our desire to see this program implemented throughout Kazakhstan and Central Asia.

We also offer those living in countries where English is not the native language the opportunity to translate ARISE material into their mother tongue FREE of charge.

Arise Foundation of Uganda is a non profit, registered non-governmental Christian organization based in Uganda East Africa. It is located in its new home (headquarters) in Makindye Kampala Uganda. It was founded on the core christian values.

ARISE Foundation USA (not affiliated with ARISE Uganda) is assisting ARISE Foundation Uganda by providing its life skills curricula at no charge for use with former child warriors and other deprived children in Uganda.

Their goal is an appropriate, inter-denominational service provider to undeserved populations in Uganda which can be extended to and or adopted by regions beyond the borders regardless of race, culture, religion or any other reason.

ARISE Foundation USA has provided its life-skills curricula and staff training DVD at no charge to ARISE Foundation of Uganda for use with at-risk youth and orphans. Brother Jude Nyanzi is the executive director, and we look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with our brothers and sisters in Uganda.
