Adults - Domestic and Sexual Abuse
Adult abuse is when a person is treated in a way that hurts, exploits or makes them feel scared or unhappy. This type of abuse occurs at any age. Men and woman, rich and poor, from all ethnic backgrounds can be at risk. Abuse can be physical, emotional, or sexual. The pain from a physical injury is noticeable but the pain from emotional abuse you cannot see. Adults that experience physical abuse which may have begun in childhood, can suffer from low self-esteem, anger, guilt, depression, eating disorders, and substance abuse. The ARISE life skills curriculum for adults provides life skills lessons for adults helping to understand and deal with abuse.
