Gerard Carter Community Center in Staten Island, NY Uses ARISE LIFE Skills books
Gerard Carter Community Center in Staten Island, NY has adopted the ARISE Life Skills materials to teach children ages 7 to 12 years who participate in their “Back to Basics” program.
The “Back to Basics” program is an instructional program designed to provide Literacy, Life Skills, and Basketball instruction to youth in underserved communities. This program is supported by volunteer mentors who give back to their community to support the growth and quality of life of young people.
They use the ARISE series for their life skills component of the program which spans 7 weeks.
The topics covered are:
- Handling Abuse (Week 1)
- Beware of Bullies (Week 2)
- Handling Anger (Week 3)
- Drugs and Alcohol (Week 4)
- Self-Esteem (Week 5)
- A Winning Attitude (Week 6)
- Dropout Prevention (Week 7)
ARISE a non-profit Foundation, created in 1986 provides a rich assortment of time tested, evidence-based life skills curricula for youth ranging from Pre-Kindergarten to High School as well as for adults. Our mission is to provide valuable ARISE life skills (also available in Spanish) and professional staff trainings to youth and the adults who care for them. We enable youth and young adults to achieve their highest potential as law abiding citizens through ARISE interactive group sessions conducted by well trained, caring ARISE Group Facilitators.
