Youth / Life Skills Training Facilitator

Judy Lyons - ARISE Youth / Life Skills Training Facilitator Judy Lyons is an ARISE program specialist and life-skills trainer in the Washington, D.C. area. Judy has been with ARISE for the last ten years and has trained more than 1,000 ARISE Life-Skills Group Facilitators in over 150 community-based organizations in the District of Columbia. Judy holds a master’s degree in school supervision and administration from the University of District of Columbia. She began her career at the DC Department of Corrections as an English teacher, advanced to school principal, and eventually became the deputy warden. She retired in 2004 and began training ARISE life-skills group facilitators just two months later! Judy conducts all of the life skills training in the D.C. area and teaches the ARISE for Change youth lessons in D.C. group homes.

Youth Group Facilitator

Carol Harris - ARISE Youth Group Facilitator Carol Harris comes with great experience working with at risk youth in the District of Columbia. She worked at Ballou Senior High School in Educational Therapy, where she held individual and group sessions with students in content areas that they were weak. She supervised job training for the special educational students. She supervised students on educational related trips across the United States. She created and maintained the entire database for the Special Education Department at Ballou High School. She also worked at Coolidge Senior High School in Dc as a Career Readiness Counselor. She attended the University of the District of Columbia. She has been trained in Motivational Interviewing.
