Written Testimonials
- “One of the best things about ARISE Drop It at the Door has been the interaction with my coworkers. I’ve been working with some of these people for 13 years and knew nothing about them, felt no connection. After these two days of training, I feel a real because I know their story now and we are all working towards the same goal – to help these troubled kids.””by Refugio NavarroTravis County Juvenile Probation Department
- “Susan ,three young ladies participated in the ARISE for Change session here in Washington DC at the Comfort House facility this evening. They worked diligently on the vision board lesson and thoroughly enjoyed it. They were more creative, serious and intent on this lesson than the boys. All of the girls requested more than one board because they envisioned so much more for themselves. Two of the young ladies wrote messages using some of the positive words to indicate that their lives had been a mess for a long time, but they envisioned a lot of great and positive things to begin happening to them. Some of the things they wrote almost brought tears to my eyes. I promised them that by Monday I would have some travel magazines available to them. They also plan to ask Mr. Everette for permission to hang them in their rooms. Ms. Gibbs indicated that she was also going to see if Mr. Everette would have them framed.”by Judy Lyons
- “About seven youth participated in Choices for Change this evening at the facility. One of the youth, Dionte Clay, is a returning youth. We had a great session, and they really responded to the lesson on Body Language. They were engaged, and for the first time, they did all of the talking. Great session.”by Judy Lyons
- “Five youth participated in Choices for Change this evening at the facility. Two of the youth were new to the facility. Again we had a great session. All the youth participated and responded. We completed lesson 21 and got through half of 22. They all wrote lengthy Gratitude Letters, but only one of them would read theirs. However, they all took them with them and indicated that they would give them to the persons they wrote to.”by Judy Lyons
- “This training has begun to open y eyes to help me channel my anger so that I make positive and wise choices. I am grateful to have been part of this training. I hope we get the supervisors involved for this type of training can help improve the moral at the facility. The trainer made learning fun.”by Anica PetersonOrange Juvenile Detention Center
- “I now realize that dealing with stress and anger is a good idea because we need to recognize the triggers so we may deal with stress and anger in a positive and constructive manner. Anger is not a negative emotion. It is how we deal with it that makes the outcome negative or positive. I learned to turn negatives into positives.”by Mario PerezOsceola Regional Juvenile Detention Center
- “Thank you for reminding me to stop and take a look at my own thoughts and reactions. Now I understand that what I think determines how I feel, what I do determines what I feel and what I do determines who I am. It was a wonderful training. I now am aware of me, my actions , feelings and choices. It is all up to me..”by Charles E. DornStaff - Adolescent Residential Center –Kissimmee, Florida
- “I learned that words are very powerful and they can change or destroy lives and the more you smile, the more positive reactions people give you. These are new ways to be more efficient at work. The information on forgiveness had the most impact on me personally.”by Joseph P. MartinStaff - Adolescent Residential Center – Kissimmee, Florida
- “The “Drop it at the Door” training is an excellent approach to get staff to realize their own personal triggers. Once they realize how to control their personal issues, they would be better equipped to assist the youth. I liked the interactions and reminding us of simple things that make life easier. This training exceeded my expectations.”by Joseph NixonFacility Administrator - Adolescent Residential Center –Kissimmee, Florida
